Mineral Springs Map
The greatest concentration of mineral springs is in the Central Highlands of Victoria, centred on Daylesford/Hepburn Springs. All of the springs are in parks and reserves and are generally accessible to all. Many of the reserves also have
picnic facilities, whilst the largest have the full range of visitor services.
Visitors tour the region by car sampling the different waters at each spring. The springs are well signposted from the main roads. All of the springs are generally within an hours driving. The sweet Seltzer waters of Spargo Creek contrast with the sodium - magnesium bicarbonate waters of Daylesford. Each spring at Central Reserve in Daylesford have subtle differences in flavour and effect as do the five spring at Hepburn Mineral Springs Reserve. Different again are the magnesium bicarbonate waters of Kyneton and Taradale.
The springs are either bores equipped with a hand pump or a naturally flowing spring where the emerging mineral water has been captured and directed to an outlet within a retaining wall. These 'natural' springs are called pit springs. The pit springs are subject to seasonal fluctuations in flow with some reverting to a trickle in late Summer. The bores equipped with hand pumps are always abundant sources of mineral water. When drawing water using the hand pumps it is always best to pump it well to ensure a fresh charge of fully carbonated water.
To "take the waters" you just need to bring your own glass or cup.
